“Why? Why has this antiquated-sounding religious concept come back in a secular form? And why now?”
Victims of racism and sexism are tired of living in a world built for someone else.
My heart goes out to Paul Graham the victim who would now face consequences for expressing racist and sexist views! Sure wish we could roll this back to the state of “enlightenment” before this was true.
- usrn 4y agoI don't think enlightenment should be in quotes here. I'm pretty sure this really is the logical conclusion of the ideas in the enlightenment and if we want to move beyond the trouble we have we're going to have to question those.
- tehsauce 4y agoI was quoting it as it was used in the footnote: “It's only because they live in a world created by the Enlightenment that kids from the suburbs can play at banning ideas.”
