I think the distinction is a bit more blurry than you're implying here. Political (maybe too limiting) ideology is a linear model fit over the vast complexity of life that provides a framework for its adherents to make simple choices in the face of complex problems.
Traditionally conceived "spiritual" religions seem very similar to me.
