Why Are Elon Musk and Marc Andreesen Obsessed with Birth Rates?
- thomassmith65 4y ago“Right now there's a movement afoot among the elites in our country that basically says anybody having kids is a bad idea, including having elites have kids is a bad idea because of climate,” Andreesen told Rogan This isn't the first time I've heard Andreesen contrast his own opinion to that of the 'elites'. It grates to listen to someone employ class warfare when that person is worth somewhere from one to two billion dollars.
- LewisVerstappen 4y agoHe's talking about "Cultural Elites". Cultural elites has less to do with wealth and is instead about influence over culture. Authors, journalists, large twitter influencers, etc. are examples of cultural elites who are not wealthy.

- sn0w_crash 4y agoI’m not sure why a persons wealth should cause me to automatically rule out their morals, message or wisdom. Regardless of wether or not one agrees with the message. The inverse of that would be saying “this person is penniless, it grates me to listen to their opinion on other poor people.”
- jlee4219 4y agoYou're arguing against something different than what you replied to – it's not necessarily that their wealth rules out their morals, message, or wisdom, it's that their wealth rules out their ability to frame themselves as not part of the "elite."
- sn0w_crash 4y agoHis comments are about an outspoken sect of political and self proclaimed intellectual “elites” who have a particular opinion on population he disagrees with I’m not sure why I should assume Marc is automatically part of this group. Because he is in the same tax bracket? Again, for me this would be like hearing a person of lower income describe the opinion of a group within their own economic status - say, a religious sect - whom they disagree with, and immediately downplaying it because they’re both poor. I can’t lump all rich people in the same bunch, sorry.

- thomassmith65 4y agoIt's not rich people I meant to lump together; if anyone, it's populists.
- jelliclesfarm 4y agoIf they do one or all of the following, they wouldn’t be so worried or obsessed: 1. Stop educating women. 2. Rip reproductive rights off women 3. Bring back child marriage 4. Polygamy. The options are endless. We won’t go extinct. Population grows exponentially. Embracing religion can help restore population growth. https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2017/04/05/the-changing-global-religious-landscape/#CHAPTER-h-age-and-fertility-are-major-factors-behind-growth-of-religious-groups https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2017/04/05/the-changing...

- jelliclesfarm 4y ago2.26: is that even legal? For employers to not hire on the basis of being ‘technology critics’ or ‘write against Elon online’? This interview is one of the scariest things I have heard in a long while now. At one point, MA says that we have never run out of natural resources. We don’t have water in California. What is he talking about? We can’t grow our food without hiring undocumented immigrants as labourers at poverty wages. Where is the technology? It’s very confusing.
