Low light absolutely is a thing in this field, I am regularly working around 4000 - 6400 ISO: indoors in the mornings with shutter speeds of 1/1000 on a f/2.8 lens. I'm also not splurging a huge budget: the OM System OM-1 is available for half the price of the equivalent DSLR from Canon. I mean it, mirrorless is fine.
