Netflix Teaming with Microsoft on New Ad-Supported Streaming Tier
- LunaSea 4y agoPrepare for the Microsoft buyout.
- mrkramer 4y agoI wouldn't count that out because Netflix is facing and will face only growing competition from YouTube, TikTok and other screen time attention apps. But tbh majority of people use "Netflix" as a synonym for movies and TV series. That's the one thing they have. As far as I understood Netflix revenue moves according to the season cycles e.g. people buy their subscription during Christmas winter time because they want to watch movies during holidays and because it's cold outdoors or during February because of Valentine's Day so they can watch movies with their loved one. The second factor is original content which forces you to buy their subscription because that content is exclusive to the Netflix or in another words you can not watch it anywhere else except on Netflix. Again original content comes in cycles.
- Melting_Harps 4y agoFAANG is going to FAANG, so who better to team up with than the previous monolith that it supposedly replaced and is known put bloated adware in it's OS? I'd say I'm dissapointed, but he truth is I've never purchased Netflix subscription, and even when I'm given passwords to watch something I just end up going on the waves to watch. The same goes for Prime, I just do I just do it put of habit bu t seeing this after their colossal collapse in stock price I want to say it's out of spite and malice now if this is the direction they are going.
- mrkramer 4y agoWhen subscription business model does not meet your revenue projections just shove ads down the users' throats. Disgusting!
- throwaway5959 4y agoPass. Let them Quibi and let someone else buy their assets and offer a $10/mo HD family plan. They’ll clean up.
- Waterluvian 4y agoIt always begins this way. Just some extra tier that’s cheaper or free with ads. Then ads start showing up on the other tiers. Just like Cable. I think this marks the beginning of the end for Netflix (if their declining user base didn’t already mark that.)
- drc500free 4y agoThey might stop at raising the price of the ad-free tiers.
- georgebarnett 4y agoEven with a charitable assumption that ads will stay limited to a free tier; this will still reduce Netflix program quality because stories need to have breaks to insert ads into without feeling weird. Remove the ads and you then have storyline peaks and troughs which are not needed, which will break the immersion, leading to a worse outcome.
