Netflix API Launches
- TrevorJ 18y agoSince the traditional media content providers have been slow to adopt internet distribution and there is no "One place" where you can find complete content from all of the networks and studios, API's are really an exciting development because if several of the content providers adopt them it should make it easier for a third party to allow an end-user to find the content they want regardless of what service it happens to be available under.
- josefresco 18y agoQuick! 5 business ideas built around the NetFlix API ... go
- rudyfink 18y agoNetDater - Date people in your area with similar movie tastes or movies in que.
- brandnewlow 18y agoDude you botched the obvious name for this one....rhymes with flix....
- aneesh 18y agoThis is a cool idea. If anyone is interested in building something like this as a side project on weekends, reply here or email me. I've done stuff with data mining/recommendations before.
- thorax 18y agoNeighborMovieSwap - Speed up Netflix sharing by seeing what your neighbors/friends/dormmates have at their houses currently and just sneakernet swap the movies before they're returned. (webapp, but maybe not a viable business)
- thorax 18y agoQueueTorrentSearch - Search your queue for movies you can download right now instead of waiting for Netflix. (shady and not really something I'd ever want/use, but hey-- these things are popular and I'm trying to respond to your challenge)
- thorax 18y agoNetflixNewsNotifier - analyzes your queue and usage and provides you celebrity/director gossip from the movies you actually watch. Provides you alerts when your favorite directors/actors/etc are added to Netflix. Can automatically queue those movies for you.
- tocomment 18y agoFacebook app to show what movies you have at home. Twitter app to twitter what movies you have at home? Twitter app to tweet when you update your queue in near real time. None are viable businesses or even that fun ... oh well
- tocomment 18y agoApp to continually check Netflix to let you know when movies and tv series you want become available on Netflix, and automatically add them to your queue. (I guess you can add not released movies to your queue now? Maybe not for TV series though? Will it let you save say Kyle XY season 3?)

- callmeed 18y agoI love how every idea is a CamelCased name ... MovieMeetup–when a movie in your queue is delivered, your FB friends are notified and invited to come over (if they bring popcorn). TweetFlix–when your movie is delivered, "Joe is gonna watch The Godfather soon" is posted to your Twitter. (totally useless, I know)
- tstegart 18y agoyeah, this one is hard. None of the ideas look really viable to me (sorry guys). I put my mind to it and couldn't come up with anything. One thing I'm not sure about though, is if the API allows you to control the streaming. One report said you got stop and play controls. I would love it if someone released an app to watch your netflix streaming movies on your iPhone.
- comatose_kid 18y agoiCamelCaseExtreme - Use the current rental choice to suggest related books (or soundtrack) to purchase on Amazon. Make money when users click on the Amazon referrals.
- ca98am79 18y agosomeone please make an iphone application where I can search and add to my instant queue
- kirubakaran 18y agoHow much are you willing to pay?
- tocomment 18y agoI'll add it to my list of apps to make. Can I put Netflix in the name or would that violate trademarks?
- ulysses 18y ago'Netflix cannot be the first word in the application name. It can be used in the naming of an app as “x for Netflix” or “x with Netflix”, “x’s Netflix Manager”, etc. This makes it clear that the offering is not from Netflix.' http://developer.netflix.com/docs/Branding http://developer.netflix.com/docs/Branding
- tstegart 18y agoI know people make apps to play Sirius satellite radio. Probably can't put "Netflix" in your app name though, but I'm sure something appropriately "flixed" will work just as well. Then again, it never hurts to ask them.

- terpua 18y agoWhen you rate a movie on Netflix, it will be posted on your twitter account using hashes.
