I guess just like the move to televisions that are not tuned with capacitors, or planes not flown by mechanical linkages and are now fly-by-wire (or cars for that matter), we continue proceeding into the age where you cannot get something to work anymore (or fix it) with just a screwdriver and other mechanical tools. Not that a SLR or DSLR was operated or fixable purely mechanically anyway... but still.
