Creepy 3D-printed robot spider is here to help
- hezekiah 15y agoThey can print several legs at a time. Not too long before they can print a whole spider at once. Then, print parts of a 3D printer which can be assembled by one or more spiders. At this point we will have the world's first self-replicating machine. I expect the Kurzweil Singularity to happen sometime shortly after that.
- joshu 15y agoAs an expert on creepy robots (http://creepyrobots.tumblr.com http://creepyrobots.tumblr.com) i declare this to be less creepy than expected. if it worked they'd have a video, not a picture.
- zeratul 15y agoThe Fraunhofer team will be displaying a prototype of the robot at the EuroMold 2011 trade fair that runs from November 29 to December 2 in Frankfurt, Germany. They have still couple days to tweak it.
- rkalla 15y agoThe captions on this site are most excellent.
- joshu 15y agoThanks. Sadly I haven't had the time to keep running with it. Maybe someday.

- Natsu 15y agoI can only wonder what sort of toys kids will be playing with once we have cheap 3D printers and everybody can do this. I wonder if schools will have to ban robot spiders someday?
- mhb 15y agoIs there a video? Otherwise, what makes this interesting? And why is it creepier than any other plastic toy?
- skjain2 15y agoSaw this and thought of the Replicators from Stargate SG1 :)
- zeratul 15y agoFYI, Fraunhofer IPA is known for their robotic arms, e.g.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdVzrSgt_Hc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdVzrSgt_Hc
- nobody3141592 15y agoI for one welcome our self-replicating Teutonic arachoid robot overlords
- rinrae 15y agoCreepy? Actually I think it's sexy.
