Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing. But I thought The Grid was anything but bland and boring. It was beautiful and unique! The End of Line entrance and subsequent fight is iconic; I love when “God” enters the fray. And speaking of limitations adding to appeal, the uncanny valley de-aging of Jeff Bridges works (opening scene aside) because CLU himself is not quite right. I could go on. The director went on to do Oblivion and the new Top Gun; both were really well-crafted.
