It's called Supply and Demand. Europe buys Russian gas because it's plentiful and cheap. Same as the US buys lots of stuff from China/Taiwan because it's plentiful and cheap. The US is just as addicted to Taiwanese semiconductor chips as Europe is addicted to Russian gas. There's a reason that Globalisation is not the panacea it's touted to be. All countries should be manufacturing everything they need. Maybe not all of it, but sufficient to have the skilled workers' expertise and the resources for manufacturing it.
