One suggestion I've seen (eg here: https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/api-management/understanding-grpc-openapi-and-rest-and-when-to-use-them https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/api-management/unders...) is to distinguish between REST and OpenAPI designs. Because you're right, REST is a specific thing, but we do need some name for what everyone is talking about, and just saying "RPC" is much too vague.
