I'm not convinced that common sense or a common world ever actually existed. The mass cultures of the 20th century were certainly a valiant attempt at creating a common world or consensus reality, but that social reality was just a one-size-fits-none grid (in the Discordian sense) that people were encouraged to superimpose over their own subjective experience of reality on pain of ostracism.
