How Europe Became So Dependent on Putin for Its Gas
- necovek 4y agoI can't imagine Putin producing much natural gas, at least not in enough quantity to matter for Europe. I do wonder why did Europe become so dependent on Biden for tech equipment and software (since Biden is obviously producing all the Apple and Intel/AMD computers and Microsoft and Google software)? I mean, it's obviously not dependent on Putin, but on another European country that has a natural resource in abundance and can produce it at the best price.
- jleyank 4y agoThey chose to. It was a gamble that economic co development would bring peace but it seems to have brought coercion. Perhaps everybody really wasn’t as afraid of war as they let on? And why did they let China (and Korea) take over the tech market? People wanted to pay less for goods and felt nothing could go wrong.
- simonblack 4y agoIt's called Supply and Demand. Europe buys Russian gas because it's plentiful and cheap. Same as the US buys lots of stuff from China/Taiwan because it's plentiful and cheap. The US is just as addicted to Taiwanese semiconductor chips as Europe is addicted to Russian gas. There's a reason that Globalisation is not the panacea it's touted to be. All countries should be manufacturing everything they need. Maybe not all of it, but sufficient to have the skilled workers' expertise and the resources for manufacturing it.
