SF cops want real-time access to private security cameras for surveillance
- docmechanic 4y agoCurrently can't find any reference to this in the Chron, Merc, or Mission Local.
- Bostonian 4y agoIf I lived in a high-crime area, and I thought that giving police access to a camera in front of my home made me safer, I would probably do so.
- quantified 4y agoThe question is, do the people being policed want them to?
- weglkjlkt34 4y agoWe don't need cops seizing private cameras. We just need them to ARREST criminals. If you steal something from the store you get arrested. If you are smoking/injecting illegal schedule I and schedule II drugs you get ARRESTED. London Breed and all the other SF politicians are working for narco-terrorist cartels. The Sinaloa cartel literally controls both the drug and fencing trade in the Tenderloin. I say we send in the national guard and just start arresting every last person in city hall until we get results. SF is a failed city and the politicians are narcos.
- rektide 4y agosomeone wandered in, caused shit, & got violent at a beer garden i was at yesterday. i dislike the idea of always on cameras, cameras in the infrastructure. but it did ocur to me that i wanted to be able to videocall the police right then & there.
- bogantech 4y agoLuckily we each carry devices with us that can be used to contact the police at the press of a button
- rektide 4y agoRude way to ignore my point thanks. This dude stormed off after picking up & hurling four glasses. It would have been nice to have been able to have have information streaming, to make the situation clear & knkwn. Instead it took about 8 minutes for the first squad car to arrive. Then employees spent about half an hour trying to describe the guy & what happened, to about 4 police officers. Yes we can pick up the phone. You know what's worth a thousand words? A photo. Your snarky shutdown misses the basic idea, that while police & megacorps forge ever tighter pacts, the civilians have nothing better slightly upscaled 1940's tech to work with, to report with.
