I use emacs with viper and vimpulse (http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs-es/vimpulse.el http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs-es/vimpulse.el) and I'm very happy. This setup does support text objects.
I have not used evil, so I'm not sure how vimpulse compares with evil.
