At some point in the future, we will have plants that essentially perform "alchemy" using nuclear transition state probability tables (the nuclear version of the chemistry done on an industrial scale today). The power cost will be high, but energy tends to only get cheaper in the long run, especially with fusion on the horizon. This will present a solution to the radioactive waste created by today's fission plants as well as unlock untold possibilities with rare and exotic elemental isotopes.
