These guys appears to be pushing a pretty radical kind of political change, which doubtlessly influences whatever they're writing about "the news" and "history." This is apparently what they're about:

> The Network State in One Sentence
> In one informal sentence:
>> A network state is a highly aligned online community with a capacity for collective action that crowdfunds territory around the world and eventually gains diplomatic recognition from pre-existing states.
> ...
> Here’s a more complex definition that extends that concept and pre-emptively covers many edge cases:
>> A network state is a social network with a moral innovation, a sense of national consciousness, a recognized founder, a capacity for collective action, an in-person level of civility, an integrated cryptocurrency, a consensual government limited by a social smart contract, an archipelago of crowdfunded physical territories, a virtual capital, and an on-chain census that proves a large enough population, income, and real-estate footprint to attain a measure of diplomatic recognition.
Tl;dr: another verbose anarcho-libertarian fantasy. I'm glad I had JS disabled so it started me on page 1 of 3,440, instead of in the middle.

- hef19898 4y agoMaybe the Brits will sell them some old oil rigs or flag towers in international waters... I hear those are great to run pirate raduo stations from!

- dataflow 4y ago> and an on-chain census Sounds like yet another problem that blockchain ingeniously solves.
- Jeff_Brown 4y ago> A network state [requires] ... a recognized founder ... Uh-huh.
- hef19898 4y agoMaybe too late bow, but how fast can one set up a networkstatecoin?
- rahimnathwani 4y agoThese comments aren't about the article that was submitted. Nevertheless, I find this part of your comment interesting: These guys appears to be pushing a pretty radical kind of political change, which doubtlessly influences whatever they're writing about "the news" and "history." Of course, if you're writing a book to argue some point, you'll write more things that support the point, than things that refute it. However, it's possible that: - they actually believe what they wrote, and - it's exactly these beliefs that drive the agenda, not the other way around
- pj_mukh 4y agoThe number of people that look at our current political doldrums and go, "Should I show up with five of my friends to the primaries?, No No! alternative crypto anarcho land grab is a better idea" is way too high.
- sneak 4y agoIt's impossible to get rid of the state by voting for more statists.
- Gatsky 4y agoWhich anarchist would use the word 'state' in the title of their book? Or be concerned with diplomatic recognition? I also don't think the author is a libertarian, nor does he identify as such. Conflict between countries is top of the list of things that could kill 100 million people or just end civillisation as we know it. The next superpower is run by a cabal who are unfortunatey very competent and yet still think one of the worst murderers in history was a great leader. Perhaps we should welcome ideas about how we can end the current atavistic geo-locked world structure drenched in blood and history.
- gfodor 4y agowhen you write 'tl;dr', the emphasis is on the 'didn't read' part - the book is not a book promoting anarcho-libertarianism. quite the contrary
- kelseyfrog 4y agoOh cool! The horror version of The City and The City.
