Over the last 20yrs, productivity gains enabled by IT have resulted in some form of IT being almost a requirement for most companies. Even when SaSS replaces some function of internal IT, specialized IT takes its place and enables further gains in productivity. It has been really hard for companies who need IT to compete with newFANGled companies when hiring. If Apple and Google do force people back into the office, remote work will be a benefit to those companies who need to hire. Apple and Google have invested heavily in real estate. Google has over 1mil sqft in NYC. What's going to happen to all that space? My guess is it will take about 5yrs to know. There's going to be some big change to commercial real estate would be my guess.
