Security breaches are bad for business, so IT can impose draconian measures to prevent them. Right now we're bad at measuring the cost to business of IT making developers work harder.
Maybe eventually they'll be an insurance policy against lost revenue from security breaches and we stop getting in developers way. One can only hope
- rr808 4y agoYeah this is the truth. My old company once lost several mil because of sketchy employee doing something they shouldn't. We now have severe controls which makes the problem less likely to happen, but the hidden costs means it costs several mil every year - but much harder to measure.

There are polices like this, but with the prevalence of ransomeware attacks, insurers demand proof that IT departments adopt safeguards that help mitigate risk. This is in conflict with providing productive work environments to developers.
