I didn't read the full article but ctrl + f indicates they didn't comment on neither the editing nor publishing process do the same analysis for online fanfiction and see if that flows the same, publishers have a heavy hand in what they want to publish a lot of the time. taking a sample from the online community should be less biased you might even be able to visualize what different publishers are biased for if they collected that information, but alas, this is more information I don't see in the articles figures
