The economy added 372,000 jobs in June, outpacing expectations
- mgh2 4y agoProof that, like most times, consumer sentiment is not in par with reality.
- Shadonototra 4y agoyeah nothing to do with entry-level summer jobs
- sbelskie 4y agoIsn’t the jobs number always seasonally adjusted? Plus, this is above consensus expectations; economists were not unaware that it was summer when making these estimates.
- jnordwick 4y agoI think the disconnect often comes from various adjustments made for things like seasonality or yearly tracking changes. While the SA numbers showed a large, removing the seasonal adjustment showed a 79k increase in the raw numbers.. This isn't to say they are wrong, just that I don't people really take that into account like the econ numbers do so you get this separation.
- hollandheese 4y agoJust because there are more jobs doesn’t mean that people aren’t hurting or worse off than they were before.
- refurb 4y agoI’m assuming for the 372,000 that now have jobs are better off.
- orionion 4y agoSecond jobs to pay for gas, food, etc?
- refurb 4y agoThose stats are published too. Did more people take 2nd jobs? Did you even try and look and see if that was the case?
- hollandheese 4y agoMaybe, maybe not. Sometimes unemployment or their previous job paid more or had better benefits. Job numbers up doesn’t mean people are doing better. It just means more people got jobs than lost jobs this month.
- refurb 4y agoThese are new jobs so not sure why you're talking about their prior job having better benefits (switching jobs wouldn't be counted here). And if unemployment was better why would they take the job. To be honest you sound like a "glass half empty" guy. Always looking for the bad side of good news.
- orionion 4y agoMaybe but: >College graduation statistics indicate that bachelor’s degrees are the most sought-after, with 2.038 million conferred in 2020. https://educationdata.org/number-of-college-graduates https://educationdata.org/number-of-college-graduates
- 0xy 4y agoWhat good are jobs if inflation is carving out the bottom half of the economic ladder? There's a reason it's the #1 political concern, and the reality that the government is making it worse, both by running printers 24/7 and by lying about inflation numbers (the headline figures are complete bogus). Food inflation is sky high. Most people received a pay cut in the last two years in real numbers.
