I took 2 semesters of Calculus because it was important in life according to my teachers and counselors. I was going to take more but I realized that I was learning something that had very little use in every day life. I now consider it a total waste of time. Except for an Economics course, I've never had any need for it. Even in the econ course it was minimal and could have been taught as part of that course.
The article's author has lived most of his life without needing it. And is only learning it to fill a life long doubt.
I realize that knowing a bit about Calculus is important but full semesters of it are a waste of time. It should be briefly included in one of the many other math courses we have to take.
