I definitely thought my network was down and was actually confused when other sites were available.

  Same. Posted "Hmm, HN is down ?" on screened somewhere irc session and then jumped to checking my inet connection... Such things should't happen, it confuses peoples ;) And yes, reloading, pinging, other subdomain checkin too :>
