The title doesn't match that of the article, “Former Japan PM Abe Unconscious After Shooting; Man in Custody”. The word assassinated is incorrect, because that means that he was killed. (Maybe he is dead, but the article doesn't say that.)
- loeg 4y agoWaPo claims that "NHK reported that the 67-year-old was showing no vital signs." https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/07/07/japan-shinzo-abe-shot-nara-attack/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/07/07/japan-shinzo...
- 3np 4y agoStill, not declared dead. It doesn't look hopeful, though.
- beebmam 4y agoIf he has no vital signs at his age, he's dead. Very few people make it back from CPR, and if they do they're usually going to suffer serious consequences for the rest of their life from it.
- dredmorbius 4y agoAs numerous news services are reporting (e.g., the account I heard a minute ago on BBC World Service, also The Guardian, BBC's website, NY Times), as well as numerous comments in this thread, it's noted that "cardiac arrest" is often used to describe a patient/victim who has not yet been officially declared dead, but would be very likely to not be in a recoverable condition. It's a very grave state in any event.
- dang 4y agoWe've changed the title now. Submitted title was "Japan’s Ex-PM Abe assassinated during speech". "Please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorialize." https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
