Kids aren't robots. They are human beings with underdeveloped brains. You can't tell them something and expect good compliance. I teach my kid to not run into the street. He does it anyway if he gets distracted. He isn't 'trying' to get hit a by a car. When he's older he'll be able to control himself. For now I don't let him near the street on his own.
