I'm having trouble with "a collapsing birthrate is the biggest risk civilization faces by far"

I agree, over population seems a far worse way to die off en masse. Instead the biggest risk to civilization will be all the Musk fanboys trying to mass produce babies now

I'm having trouble with "I'm doing my best to help" some sort of population crisis as well as the assumptions that "declining" birthrate = "collapsing" birthrate = "underpopulation".

Well, I don't know about that, but he is the Richest, and therefore, the Smartest Man on Earth, so there must be something to it.

Doing his part, he added some twins recently (in secret) as most rich people do...

I think that is why he posted on the birdsite, he was making an excuse for getting an employee pregnant. He is not making an observation, just providing an excuse for his own behaviour, in the manner of the robber who robbed the rich and gave to the poor starting with himself.

Rather than impregnating his employees, perhaps he could offer grants in the five figures per year for 20 years to Americans with three or more children, or push for affordable housing and single-payer health care in the USA

This is pretty much just a problem of the developed world where women enjoy a relatively good status.

No, middle-income countries like Vietnam and Iran underwent the demographic transition too!

True, plus China did a number on itself with the one child policy.

Turgidson: You mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, as far as men were concerned? Dr. Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. https://youtu.be/zZct-itCwPE https://youtu.be/zZct-itCwPE

Where are the regrets with it? That's human nature that men can spread their semen widely. And without the necessity to protect a mother from attacking sabletooth tigers and mammoths, the harem can grow evn bigger without problems. ;)
