"Real startups," as you use the term, are solving problems that are subsets of problem spaces. The vision of the company should always be focused on the problem spaces. The ability to bridge between the one thing your product does, better than anyone else, and the larger problem space, is really hard. If you can make the leap, you've gone beyond being just a feature.
