Tell HN: A Reddit admin in the Bay Area is abusing their privileges
Just a head's up since the Bay Area probably has the highest percentage of users here.
A reddit admin is abusing their privileges for their personal beliefs.
I found a post in the Bay Area subreddit from r/all. It was about people deflating tires on SUVs. I made two comments, copied below.
All new comments that I make in any sub (including ones that I've been subscribed to for a long time), no longer show up (shadowbanned), and when I click "Random" to discover a new sub, it always goes to r/femboymemes.
My username there is tempMonero123 in case anyone else wants to investigate. I did delete those two comments before I realized the scope of the situation, but I imagine anyone investigating can probably still see them (unless they really are deleted?).
> The wheel pressing down on a flat tire with the weight of a car, causes damage. The wheel has an edge that presses into the rubber when the tire is flat.

- Quequau 4y agoThis submission, confuses the terms "site-admin" and "subreddit moderator" and for an account that is over 5 years old, that's sorta surprising. The assertion that "A reddit admin is abusing their privileges for their personal beliefs" is baseless. /u/tempMonero123 is not shadow-banned. All their recent comments, except for the ones they themselves deleted, are live. Random works for me. Perhaps it's the platform being used. I use Firefox on a Linux desktop. Maybe it's just that Random shows us our deepest desires, I wound up at /r/CPM This account has made only two comments in /r/bayarea, which they acknowledge to have deleted themselves. There is no sign whatsoever that they have ever submitted anything else to that subreddit at all, even on 3rd party archives. So from what I can tell, either this person is using a platform with bad error detection in a place with a suboptimal network so their comments & posts are never making it to Reddit at all... or all this is just made up.
- SpeakingOut 4y agoI'm not making it up, nor do I see how I am confusing the terms site admin and subreddit moderator. I posted "Test" in the subreddit that I am a moderator of. https://old.reddit.com/r/xmrtrader/comments/vpluk2/weekly_discussion_altcoin_saturday_july_02_2022/if697y6/ https://old.reddit.com/r/xmrtrader/comments/vpluk2/weekly_di... It does not show up when I view it logged-out.
- SpeakingOut 4y agoI can see "Test" as my latest comment in my user history. https://old.reddit.com/user/tempMonero123/ https://old.reddit.com/user/tempMonero123/
- SpeakingOut 4y agoI wish I could edit my HN comments. Anyway, I am using old.reddit on Firefox on Android. Suggesting that femboys is my deepest desire seems like a character attack in an attempt to dismiss my claim, rather than being reasonable.
- SpeakingOut 4y agoIt is fixed now, thank you whomever for fixing it (or undoing it if that was you, not cool though).
- simonblack 4y agoAnd in other News, water is wet. A Reddit admin/moderator/petit-napoleon is abusing his privileges. So what else is new?
