I really dislike podcasts on Spotify. Admittedly, it’s somewhat irrational. It’s like I don’t want my peas (music) and carrots (podcasts) to touch. It clutters the UI and mixes the signals in my brain when I go to reach for certain types of content. Now I find myself moving over to Apple Music altogether. I doubt podcasts on Spotify are the biggest cause for that, but it has certainly been a contributing factor. Apple is barely winnning here, but I guess that’s all it takes.
- lulzury 4y agoI listen to Lex Friedman's podcast on Spotify during my walks, but the experience is pretty bad. For example, if you have put your phone in your pocket, and then decide to open the app again, there will be an inevitable stutter as the app tries to reload the podcast using the video player. This is at least better than a few months ago, where going back to the video player shifted the playback to a seemingly random location in the podcast. Also, if you go to the podcast's page and are trying to search for an old podcast, then good luck, because there's no way to search or filter for a particular word.
- RandomWorker 4y agoI agree here. Tried an apple trial, and found so much great music. Then went back to apple podcasts (which now has this great feature of only downloading the most recent podcast, which somehow freed up 1.4GB on my phone.) I don’t find Joe Rohan that compelling and his content comes through the grapevine because he tends to go viral.

Like sure they’re both consumable via the mouth (ear), but they serve completely different purposes and in completely different contexts. One of the reasons I like Spotify is for the suggestions of what to listen to based on prior sessions. But now it’s suggesting that I listen to either Fleetwood Mac or Joe Rogan? In the same UI?
