How common of a practice is it in the Ruby community to run the trunk version? Is it mainly just developers, or is it pretty widely used in production/development environments?
- timsally 15y agoRVM, which is a standard tool to manage Ruby versions, does expose trunk: mil:~ poet$ rvm list known_strings | grep ^ruby ruby-head ruby-1.9.3-rc1 ruby-1.9.3-preview1 ruby-1.9.3-head ruby-1.9.2-p290 ruby-1.9.2-p180 ruby-1.9.2-head ruby-1.9.1-p431 ruby-1.9.1-p378 ruby-1.9.1-head ruby-1.8.7-p352 ruby-1.8.7-head ruby-1.8.6-p420 ruby-1.8.6-head However, in my anecdotal experience most people run patch releases.
- 2nd_planet 15y agoI'm just to lazy to compile trunk versions.
- thibaut_barrere 15y agoIn production, I've never seen anyone running the trunk version. In development, fairly rare as well in my experience.
- JonnieCache 15y agoI've never heard of anyone running the trunk except those who are hacking the interpreter. There are fairly regular patch releases so there's no real drive to do so.
- petercooper 15y agoVery uncommon, even amongst the most progressive developers. Trunk is notoriously over the place (as it should be IMHO).
