Tesla is wasting money at a record pace

- stolenmerch 4y agoWould be interesting to hear a few other perspectives from finance, manufacturing, or tech. Not that she's necessarily wrong, but I need some opinions on this other than from a veterinarian with a twitter presence seemingly dedicated to hating Elon Musk.
- mwint 4y ago> Texas is underwhelming Huh? They started construction less than two years ago; I don’t understand how it can be underwhelming. Par for the course would be “we found a company to dig the foundation” at this point.
- thehappypm 4y ago“Wasting” is a bad term. It’s subjective.

- toomuchtodo 4y ago> This is the most interesting part of Tesla. Their net income rise from 2019-2021 is incredible! Yet they can't seem to keep any cash. No matter how much they raise they spend more with nothing meaningful to show for it. Except a unit manufacturing run rate increasing 25-50% YoY and an $800M global fast dc charger network covering almost the entire developed world. You don’t hold cash, you shovel it into growing into the addressable market (which for EVs is huuuuuge). Gigs Berlin is shutting for two weeks to increase production [1], Giga Shanghai is preparing to slowly ramp to 1 million units/year [2] over time. I don’t care for Musk, but these people are just as meh. Tesla (not Musk; the collective employees of Tesla) is building and selling ~1 million units per year of pure BEVs, and they are backlogged by half a year for some models. Credit where credit due. - v0idzer0 4y agoShe seems to think stockpiling cash is a smart business move for a growth company in the worst inflation environment in decades. Describing the Berlin and Texas plants and subsequent scaling of production as “nothing to show” is downright delusional
