We had to replace my wife’s intel MBP with 8G of memory because it was just not sufficient. She just does simple stuff with her laptop, web browsing, occasional videos, google spreadsheets and email. The thing would just grind to a halt. We bought a 16G MBP and she’s been fine. I’m sure the ARM laptops are better with only 8G but I’m not going to test that idea. 16G is the bottom line for us from now on.
