Long time DDG user here. I haven’t used Google for the last ten years. I typically use DDG for non long tail queries for simple queries like: ‘Is it slashdot.com or slashdot.org’. Or ‘Pasta recipes’.
For the 1% of queries where I need Google, they’re typically long tail queries and highly specific like SHA256 sums of software I downloaded, phone numbers, IP addresses, and obscure error messages I get during daily computing.
(Google is great for recon and OSINT)
If DDG yielded good results for those long tail queries I don’t even see a reason for using Google.
- prox 4y agoBeen using DDG almost exclusively as well now. Anything DDG doesn’t know can be fixed with adding “reddit” to it.

- lapcat 4y agoBing is the worst, because it keeps banning random websites for no reason, and then that ban goes out to any other engines relying on Bing such as DuckDuckGo. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31891635 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31891635 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31766882 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31766882
