Show HN: StoneDB – A real-time HTAP database built on MySQL
- realPubkey 4y agoWikipedia: Hybrid transaction/analytical processing (HTAP) is a term created by Gartner Inc.: > Hybrid transaction/analytical processing (HTAP) is an emerging application architecture that "breaks the wall" between transaction processing and analytics. It enables more informed and "in business real time" decision making.
- YangWilly 4y agoYes, that's exactly where we are going. Next week, we will release a video to explain the technical architecture.
- gregwebs 4y agoI can't figure out the architecture of this. Does it run InnoDB or is that an optional setup?

- the-alchemist 4y agoIt's a shame https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-columnstore/ https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-columnstore/ didn't make it... Actually, looks like the Enterprise version is alive and well: MariaDB Enterprise ColumnStore 6.3.1 was released on 2022-04-25
- taywrobel 4y agoSaying “The running systems can be seamlessly migrated to StoneDB without any code changed” seems a bit disingenuous given the number of limitations this imposes over standard MySQL. If your code ever deletes data or uses an index this certainly wouldn’t be a drop in replacement as that copy text makes it seem.
- DMoarlannskii 4y ago1.It's good that you noticed the limitations and if your code doesn't collide with the limitations, then you can switch seamlessly from MySQL to StoneDB. 2.There are always some limiations for a universary DBMS product, like the limitations of MySQL heatwave at https://dev.mysql.com/doc/heatwave/en/heatwave-limitations.html https://dev.mysql.com/doc/heatwave/en/heatwave-limitations.h... 3.StoneDB is a new emerging HTAP database. It's natural with some limitations. And these limitations will become fewer and fewer in the nearby future.
- dhzhzjsbevs 4y agoNot being able to run delete commands is a bit more than a limitation no matter what way you want to spin it.
- ovaistariq 4y agoReferencing the text from documentation: “ StoneDB is optimized for OLAP applications. StoneDB that runs on a common server can process complex queries on tens of billions of data records, while ensuring high performance. Compared to databases that use MySQL Community Edition, StoneDB is at least 10 times faster in processing queries. StoneDB uses the knowledge grid technology and a column-based storage engine.” That doesn’t seem like a HTAP database but an analytical database. Transaction processing has completely different requirements which cannot be fulfilled by a columnar storage engine.
- DMoarlannskii 4y agoyes, u r right."StoneDB is optimized for OLAP applications" is actually describing the StoneDB column store engine of StoneDB DMBS.
