Personally on the fence about the article. The old adage I've always favored is that an insult(/meanness/slur/etc) says a lot more about the person saying it than anything else, including the target. Very, very often the folks who go around putting down other people are the ones trying to fill very bleak holes in their soul or run from something. I have limited sympathy there and hope often that they find a way to work on themselves for healing.
