If people dislike the US so much they should leave. Canada is extremely easy to immigrate to, they'll even let you drive up there with a US license and license plates while you're moving, you just need to fill out all the paperwork.
Except it turns out most of the laborers seem to prefer the US to Canada.
- dangus 4y agoInstead of sitting back and reciting some patriotic nonsense about how much we love America, I think we should work to make the USA as nice as it can potentially be. "If you dislike it so much you should leave" is apathetic bullshit. It's the act of making excuses for the failures of this country. To you, it's just so great here that any criticism is unjustified. That attitude is dangerous and, quite frankly, it's a propagandistic tool used by politicians to discourage pressure to reform. On top of that, "just leaving" sounds so easy, but that's not really how it works, especially for the poorest people. For one thing, leaving any country is a huge commitment in terms of social and familial ties. Secondly, you can't just magically move to another country and live there automatically. You have to apply for permanent residence status before you can even work in another country, which usually means having an employer sponsor you. I imagine that wouldn't be very easy to accomplish if you work in a high school-educated field like retail or fast food. What McDonald's franchise would sponsor an employee? How many countries want high school-educated people to immigrate? If the USA continues to regress, maybe I will take you up on your suggestion and leave. Maybe I could find a job to sponsor me in Ireland or The Netherlands, since I'm an educated professional with multiple degrees. That does nothing to help the working class, though.
