EU forces Amazon to make it easier to cancel Prime subscriptions in Europe
- sylware 4y agoamazon recently broke noscript/basic (x)html support. What's happening in amazon???
- nebula8804 4y agoThey have burned through so many engineers in some areas that they are probably not getting the best of the best in all areas.
- sylware 4y agoI don't understand, you don't need the "best". noscript/basic (x)html is MUCH MORE simple than the grotesque javascripted-web. The real hard part is the "security" monitoring infrastructure.
- nebula8804 4y agoWhile the fix itself may be simpler there is usually a lot of process, deployment bloat and other junk that can be involved around any change as you typically see in big companies. So many opportunities to introduce a fault. I don't know if it is possible for Amazon at its scale to do just simple solutions.
- sylware 4y agoVell, it was working perfectly, then some ppl did break it thru all those processes. If it was done with complex stuff, it can be done with simple stuff (noscript/basic (x)html), this is common sense.
- nebula8804 4y agoI don't think it is possible to do it the simple way and reliably deploy for millions of users. Plus there is administrative burden. How do you audit this stuff? How do you ensure compliance for an endless set of rules and regulations? This ain't someone's side project. While developers might be inclined to side with the simple approach, too many other departments in the company may push back.
- lolc 4y agoIt's really hard for me to accept that using such dark patterns makes economic sense. Because just hearing about it puts Amazon at the bottom of the list when I'm looking for a vendor. But apparently it works well enough for them.
