I have to keep reminding me of this! We’re here down on Earth looking for ways to push science further and reconcile the quantum world with the Standard Model, while the atmosphere may already produce things like gravitons or some exotic version of Supersymmetry that demands higher energies than expected.
- turbinerneiter 4y agoSo we just need to lift the measurement equipment into the upper atmosphere and wait :D
- snowwrestler 4y agoYou joke, but before powerful particle accelerators, physicists really did just lift detectors higher into the atmosphere—either on planes or by carrying them up very tall mountains.
- turbinerneiter 4y agoI know of some high altitude balloon and satellite experiments as well. I guess size and weight are a limiting factor to what one can detect with those.
