Intel Is Confident It Can Win Apple Back as a Customer (2021)
- warrenm 4y agoI grant I'm not as up on the CPU Wars™ as I used to be ... but when is the last time Intel offered anything in their mainstream (desktop and/or server) CPUs that was in any way new or interesting or compelling? AMD seems to have won the the 64-bit x86 war (though Intel's hanging on for reasons I don't understand) in raw processing, cycles-per-watt, etc ARM's got the mobile market (for now) And RISC-V is the spunky upstart in the embedded (and, slowly, beyond) realm What does Intel have going for it ... beyond name recognition?
- hotpotamus 4y agoTry getting an AMD laptop to correctly go into standby in Linux sometime and you might have an appreciation for compatibility. For most things, Intel is boring and just works.
- warrenm 4y agoHaven't run Linux on a laptop (or desktop) in 15+ years Rarely have Windows sleep properly ... only Macs ever have consistently for me :)
