Why container ships probably won't get bigger
- freemint 4y agoNote that this reasoning is limited to hydrocarbon burning ships. The economics of electricity (solar/battery) or hydrogen powered ships could be very different and would require huge revamps for port infrastructure anyway.
- JoeAltmaier 4y agoPorts. Knew that before reading. It's expensive to build a ship; it's an order of magnitude more expensive to build a port. So ships follow ports in design. And ports are constrained by their neighborhood (cities and development) and the geography (harbors). I wonder if a sea-based port makes any sense. A floating rail line or undersea train tunnel or skyway or something. To escape the bounds on port design.
