How about seed oils?
- MattGaiser 4y agoAre seed oils some new health trend? I keep seeing people mention them in health discussions.
- PainfullyNormal 4y agoThe opposite. https://fireinabottle.net/ https://fireinabottle.net/
- hirundo 4y agoThere's a lot of evidence that PUFAs are obesogenic and diabetogenic. Their consumption increase broadly tracks the epidemics of both. E.g. https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Soybean-Oil-Is-More-Obesogenic-and-Diabetogenic-Oil-Deol-Evans/6794028d3bbf6c2d8bb7f6a6b5d9e671dbf8b247 https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Soybean-Oil-Is-More-Ob... If the effect is real it takes place over decades, gradually damaging mitochondria, making it difficult to cover with RCTs.
- Entinel 4y ago"A lot" is a stretch. There is some evidence in mice and a few hypothesis but I certaintly wouldn't say "a lot." The exception to this I would say is soybean oil. There is a decent amount of research pointing in direction that soybean oil isn't great.
- rafaelero 4y agoAdded oil should be kept at minimum. It doesn't matter the source. But of course this is not the main reason for the obesity epidemic; people just like to find easy culprits instead of looking at the culture around food in the US.
- SamPatt 4y agoI believe the case against seed oils isn't about them causing obesity, but heart disease.
- PainfullyNormal 4y agoI've seen convincing cases for both. Obesity: https://fireinabottle.net/how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stress-part-i/ https://fireinabottle.net/how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stre... - xwdv 4y agoDo NOT consume seed oils. Go in your pantry and throw away anything that lists some kind of seed oil as an ingredient.
- austinjp 4y agoWhy? * * By which I mean with references. And yes, big farma, etc etc, but really, decent studies please.
- PainfullyNormal 4y agoBuckle up, because Brad Marshall over at fireinabottle.net has a six part series on this complete with footnotes. https://fireinabottle.net/how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stress-part-i/ https://fireinabottle.net/how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stre... https://fireinabottle.net/the-mitochondrial-bottleneck-as-the-carburetor-screw-how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stress-part-ii/ https://fireinabottle.net/the-mitochondrial-bottleneck-as-th... https://fireinabottle.net/acetylation-turns-on-lipogenic-genes-how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stress-part-iii/ https://fireinabottle.net/acetylation-turns-on-lipogenic-gen... https://fireinabottle.net/what-happens-to-seed-oils-when-you-eat-them-how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stress-part-iv/ https://fireinabottle.net/what-happens-to-seed-oils-when-you... https://fireinabottle.net/seed-oils-make-lean-people-behave-like-fat-people-metabolically-speaking-how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stress-part-v/ https://fireinabottle.net/seed-oils-make-lean-people-behave-... https://fireinabottle.net/pufa-as-an-obesogen-how-seed-oils-cause-reductive-stress-part-vi/ https://fireinabottle.net/pufa-as-an-obesogen-how-seed-oils-...
- lr4444lr 4y agoWhat about whole nuts and seeds from which they're derived? Do they cause the same effect? I find this all a little hard to believe given that obese people tend to consume animal fats at a higher rate than non-obese people, nationwide changes notwithstanding.

- dubswithus 4y agoI don't consume any oils. Of course if I'm eating out or at someone's house it can be outside my control.
