I have always looked at it as a social activity, than sole reason to be getting drunk. With my friends, if you wanted to get drunk, it w as s never at a pub, we were too cheap. We would just drink at home. In general, people are less outgoing, not specific to pubs. Look at restaurant closures in your area, retail stores etc... I bet the pub lines up with these
