TL;DR: Chessable laying off 29 employees. As both a software person and a chess player, I really dislike this site. My impression of it, from maybe two hours total spent on it, is that it is slow and clunky and full of of "gamification" techniques and dark patterns intended to maximize "engagement". It's unfortunate. John Bartholomew (internet-famous chess player) seems like a nice guy but the site he co-founded has apparently been taken over by marketing people.
