I'm continually surprised how it's still being allowed on public roads. Tesla claims it's not an autonomous system to regulators and refuses to provide any data, while marketing it as imminent Level 5 self driving. It seems like it will take someone to be seriously injured or die for any action to occur.
- belter 4y agoNo it won't. The US is the land of regulatory capture. "A Tesla driver is charged in a crash involving Autopilot that killed 2 people": https://www.npr.org/2022/01/18/1073857310/tesla-autopilot-crash-charges https://www.npr.org/2022/01/18/1073857310/tesla-autopilot-cr...

- aiisjustanif 4y agoWhy is the guy an idiot?
- synu 4y agoI don't know if the guy is an idiot or not but I personally wouldn't have handed the wheel over to an AI right next to a school bus in order to find out if it was going to run the kids over.
- dtho 4y agoSeems like he had it under control, and was recording it in order to publicize the problem and possibly get it fixed.
- dopamean 4y agoPresumably because he knew what was going to happen and did it anyway.
- technobach 4y agoTesla claims FSD is in beta. Subjecting unwilling children into this beta testing seems at the very least reckless, if not other less savoury words.
- __m 4y agoI’d like to live too
- salawat 4y agoI'd like to know why other adults who did not sign up to part of a distributed beta test are overlooked in your calculus. Or has the tech industry beaten any semblance of self-respect out of everyone to the point it is just expected the technocrats get to use everyone as guinea pigs?
- moritonal 4y agoThe rough part is how the guy's obviously making a decent amount of money with the YouTube series on Tesla. The more dramatic, the better, which is only going to further incentivise risking others.
- BbzzbB 4y ago220k lifetime views, mostly over the last 2-3 years, is not really a significant amount of money. His videos this week got 97, 699, 18 and 48 views. He's probably trying, but I'm not sure he gets anything more than some beer money from this channel.
- TacticalCoder 4y ago> Here is another idiot "testing" it out in front a school bus. He's anything but an idiot: it helps raises awareness of the serious issues Tesla self-driving have. He was also obviously ready to act immediately, which he did, and no kids were ever at risk in that vid.
- ra7 4y agoSome other individual might not be ready to act immediately. This is really where you want trained safety drivers sent by the engineering team to do targeted testing.
- kortilla 4y agoSo he’s… still not an idiot. Maybe rethink your comment.
- ra7 4y agoNah, I stand by it, especially after how he justified it in YouTube comments. Zero reason to turn on a dangerous system in front of a school bus.
- kortilla 4y agoIt’s not dangerous if you’re explicitly expecting it to do something silly and are ready to take over. There haven’t been any cases of it doing something the driver couldn’t stop.
