My experience was that of going from having to spend a bit of time memorizing useless material to having to spend a great deal of time memorizing useless material. For me the only "culture shock" was the realization that I no longer had time to learn anything on top of the busy work. So I switched to a fine art degree and now I know more about engineering than 90% of engineers that I meet. Go figure.
