Unfortunately everything causes cancer, every biochemical mechanism can be related to cancer somehow. As a researcher in life science or chemistry or whatever you "package" whatever you were doing anyway to meet grant terms. This means that (after the politics are done) increased cancer funding ends up being an increase in "general" science funding. What's also needed is much better targeting of the money already spent.
