The absolute state of journalism:
- Auto sears are not illegal. There are massive restrictions on ownership of them in the US, but law abiding citizens can own them. With the right paperwork (as a manufacturer) you can even legally make them.
- Auto sears aren't a "workaround for people who cannot obtain an AR or AK legally". The article mentions "ghost guns" repeatedly; building the restricted parts of an AR or an AK can be done with minimal tools depending on what your fit and finish looks like. Everything else can be bought online.
- b5n 4y agoNot to mention that the number of AR/AKs (and their variants) in the United States that are not semi-automatic (one trigger pull, one shot) is so low that they are not statistically significant. Select fire rifles are prohibitively expensive, and require additional government paperwork, checks, and fees. Shoehorning them into an auto sear discussion is either fear mongering or ignorance, neither of which should get past an editor's desk.
