Meta's hints at “self-selection” as layoffs ramp up
- downrightmike 4y agoNext time on American Ninja Warrior!
- synicalx 4y agoOur recruiters are more than a little excited by this. Any Meta SWE, SRE or similar (US and elsewhere) that are thinking about "self selection" feel free to ping me.
- lifeplusplus 4y agoWhat company are you?
- aaaaaaaaata 4y agoTheir bio clearly shows they're not interested in sharing that. Why not send an email as they requested?

- soared 4y agoI would definitely self select for a few months of layoff pay if my ceo was “turning up the heat” on their own employees. That is not the kind of work culture I want to be a part of. IMO that wreaks of a toxic workplace.
- galaxyLogic 4y ago“turning up the heat” reveals their work-ethic. It is not about "Let's All Work Together any more, if it ever was. It is I will hold your feet to the fire so that I can get more out of you and have to give you less. These company owners see it as a zero-sum game. More for them, less for their employees. https://youtu.be/wGGW4IezbC4 https://youtu.be/wGGW4IezbC4
- marginalia_nu 4y agoI think it's seriously underestimating how sensitive top-performers are to this type of nonsense. It's always the people with other options that are the first to leave. Those without other options, on the other hand, they'll fight tooth and nail to stick around and put up with almost any amount of bullshit or mismanagement. It's almost like they read this, and thought "huh, that's an interesting idea we could try": http://brucefwebster.com/2008/04/11/the-wetware-crisis-the-dead-sea-effect/ http://brucefwebster.com/2008/04/11/the-wetware-crisis-the-d...
- t_mann 4y agoThis must be like the 5th article on the HN front page relating to this particular memo from Meta.
- egberts1 4y agoI don’t why you were downvoted but I agree with you. Must be the HN algo.
