A friend demoed his FSD-enabled Model 3 to me the other day.
In a 5-minute midday drive on the quiet, well-kept streets in his ordinary suburban neighborhood, it tried to pull in front of an oncoming car while making a right turn onto a road, and tried to turn in front of an oncoming car when trying to make a left turn off said road. Both times the Tesla initially seemed like it was going to wait for the oncoming traffic - then lurched in front of it at the last second. My friend had to jump on the brakes to avoid an accident.
In both cases the other car was clearly visible and in fact, the only other traffic in sight. You couldn’t have come up with a simpler test case if you tried.
What a joke. Tesla is nowhere close to FSD. My bet is they have a NN that can recognize lanes, stop signs, street lights, and most of the time, other traffic, and some simple control logic on top of that. Nowhere close to FSD.

- alphabettsy 4y agoThe fact that you’ve never had an issue means that it couldn’t of happened?
- user_named 4y agoI don't believe you.
- jondwillis 4y agoI believe everyone! It's definitely possible to have really bad FSD experiences, but also easy to have pretty good ones too... if you don't use it much.
- SAI_Peregrinus 4y agoI've never had my Tesla FSD have any issues, probably because I don't own a Tesla!
- MomoXenosaga 4y agoI don't understand why Tesla is so hellbent on their autopilot dream. To me it seems that their competitive advantage is their battery technology. That is where their R&D should go into to keep that advantage.
- clouddrover 4y agoIt's because they've convinced themselves that without full self-driving Tesla is worth nothing. Certainly it's the only thing left to justify the stock price: https://electrek.co/2022/06/15/elon-musk-solving-self-driving-difference-between-tesla-worth-a-lot-or-nothing/ https://electrek.co/2022/06/15/elon-musk-solving-self-drivin... Musk has been lying about full self-driving for nine years now. He pointlessly backed Tesla into that corner: https://jalopnik.com/elon-musk-promises-full-self-driving-next-year-for-th-1848432496 https://jalopnik.com/elon-musk-promises-full-self-driving-ne...
- bigChris 4y agoIt works. FSD works. Tesla will slowly push updates and ask for money to purchase a subscription. This is what Apple has done. People will soon jailbreak their Tesla. I give it roughly 6 years for someone to get mad and hack it.

- paulmendoza 4y agoThere are one way streets near my house. I see all brands of cars going the wrong way on them. It’s like no amount of signage helps.
