Isn’t it better to just level with people and pay them off properly if they now have too much headcount? It reminds me of someone who wants to split up with a partner but hasn’t got the cojones to do it. Instead, they just start behaving terribly in the hope that they get dumped first. It’s messy, disrespectful, takes longer than just being up front, and ends up at the same point anyway.
